Poop, puke and more puke

Ugh, the stomach flu has hit our home once again. It was just September when I had it (yes, the day of the Eastside Tri too!), then the Hubby and then the Kiddo...luckily, the Munchkin made it out unscathed!

This time, it started with the hubby on Monday. I know when he misses his martial arts classes that he feels like complete and utter poop! He was feeling better yesterday, so he changed the sheets in our room (I slept on the couch in an effort to avoid getting it!) and sprayed everything in the house with Lysol. Still, I was leery about entering our bedroom (aka the "hot zone") when I arrived home from work...especially the "powder room" where the toilet resides. But, when the hubby managed to hold down some soup and crackers, and later even ate a Kit Kat from the Halloween candy bowl, I knew he was better. I still handled everything kid related last night - just in case he was contagious - took the kiddo to dance class, got the kids bathed and fed, tucked them each into bed and made lunches for the next day.

But, it seems that I let my guard down too early...by 10:40 pm last night, I knew something wasn't right. The Kiddo woke up:

Kiddo: Mommy! (pause) MOM-MY!
Me: What is it Kiddo??? (yeah, I'm rolling my eyes because I think she's trying to avoid going to sleep)
Kiddo: I love you!
Me: I love you too, now go to sleep!

This is not uncommon when she 1st goes to bed and is trying to avoid going to sleep...but at 10:40 it seemed weird. Then, 20 minutes later I heard it again, but this time more urgent:

Kiddo: MOM-MY
Me: What is it Kiddo?
Kiddo: I HAVE TO GO POO POO!

Yep, this was not a good sign of things to come. Knowing that, I decided to bring her downstairs to the "hot zone" where she could be near me and closer to a bathroom. From that point until about 4:00 am, she woke up every hour to throw up. Fun times, I tell you! And, she kept wanting water. More and more water. But, her tummy didn't even want water.

Ugh, it was a Starbucks morning for sure!

Fortunately, the Munchkin and I both seem fine so far...let's just hope it stays that way. As soon as the kiddo starts showing signs of improvement, I am gonna arm myself with rubber gloves and clorox spray and start cleaning like crazy - and I will be starting in the "hot zone". Wonder if I can borrow the local HazMat crew for an hour or two? In the meantime, I need some of that yellow tape to rope off the entire area - DO NOT ENTER!

Needless to say, there were no workouts yesterday.

Challenging Run

Not challenging as in, "Wow, that was a great workout!" Challenging as in the kiddo is having some sleep issues and trying to run last night was a challenge.

I think we're getting a little taste of the "terrible twos", because for the past week or so the kiddo has been very defiant about going to bed. Just the mention of bedtime and we have Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. One minute she's a cute little girl coloring at her Dora the Explorer table, the next, she's a heap on the floor, crying, flailing legs and arms, and saying "I don't want-a to!". We’ve tried various methods to make this a little easier, but still have some issues. I won’t go into all the details, but last night was more of the same, “I don’t want-a to!” thing. Every time I thought she was finally asleep, I would hop on the treadmill. Only to hear crying and “Mommy, mommy!” on the monitor. But, I managed to get in 10-minutes here, 4-minutes there, etc. All-in-all, I managed to get in a total of 30 minutes.

I’m just happy to have made it this far into the twos with only a tiny bit of the infamous “terrible twos” behavior. Thank God it's nothing a glass of Pino Grigio can't make all better. :-) This morning, everything was fine. She woke up as I was getting out of the shower and asked me, “Why you have silly hair today mommy?” Awww, so sweet.

Weekend Re-cap

I had a great time doing dinner and a movie Friday night. Of course, dinner included margarita's! We went to see Knocked Up, which was a little slow in parts, but overall freakin' hilarious. If you don't have kids, you may not want them after seeing the delivery room scene!

Saturday, I had school all day. Blah! The good news - only 4 more weeks! The bad news - I have 4 case studies, 1 reaction paper and 2 group presentations/papers due between now and then. That's pretty much all for the day besides a trip to the grocery store and the hubby's fishing tournament (his team had fun and one of the members won 2nd place red...or was it trout?).

Today I made it to the park for my LR. No more hemming and hawing...I just woke up, got dressed and headed out. I made it there by 6:15. Let me tell you, you can really tell marathon training has begun, because the park was full of activity. Sunday mornings are usually pretty quiet, but this is the 2nd week in a row with more cars and people than usual.

I decided to do an out and back route since I have been really bad about wanting to go home when I make it around the loop and see my car. I think heading out and back is the solution, since I have to run back to my car to go home. :-) I did a variation of the Rose Garden run for a total of 7 miles. Overall, it went well. The stretch from the park to Shepherd on Memorial was the usual nightmarish, never-ending trek. But, after I made it to Shepherd, it seemed like I was at the Rose Garden in no time! Then heading back, the Memorial trek seemed to go really fast. Before I knew it, I was back at Crestwood and entering the park again! I'll admit that I did walk much more than I should have at the very end. I just kind of pooped out. But, overall it felt great!

I have no idea of my splits, because I didn't have the trusty Garmin. Based on where I *think* the miles are, I was going a tiny bit faster than an 11-minute pace. Not great, but considering the lovely humidity, not too bad either. Plus, I was running with my fuel belt for the 1st time in, well, forever! It took some getting used to at first! That reminds me - when I was heading back to the park, I kept noticing cars driving by from the direction of the park with big raindrops on them. Somehow, I managed to miss all the rain! I made up for it on the way home though...I got caught in a monsoon!

Later, (after the rain) the hubby and I took the kiddo to her swim lesson. Afterwards, we had some lunch and headed to the Children's Museum. We ended the day by riding our bikes in the driveway, playing hopscotch and blowing bubbles. Fun, fun! By the way, I was relieved to know that I can still ride a bike!

I hate running.

Not really.

Sunday, felt like an "I hate running" day. Okay, maybe hate is too strong of a word. How about a "I definitely don't feel like running today" day. Even on Saturday night, I was bargaining with myself about my scheduled 10-miler. After helping my Mom all day on Saturday with a garage sale...and I HATE garage sales...I just wasn't looking forward to getting up early yet again. I desperately wanted to sleep in. Then I remembered...a certain 2-year old would probably not let me sleep past 7 am anyway, so I might as well get my butt up and run. I also was feeling the mommy guilt. Usually, when I don't have school on a Saturday, I spend the entire day with the kiddo. Since I was at the garage sale all day, I hardley saw my kiddo on Saturday. Of course, she was having a blast with her Grandparents and cousins, so I am pretty sure she didn't mind that I wasn't there. :-)

I headed out for my LR on Sunday and made it to the park at 7 am. One thing I noticed was that it was daylight at 6:30 am....note to self: start earlier next week! Honestly, I didn't feel like running. I had already decided that I was going to do 6 instead of 10, and by the time I made it to the park I was seriously considering only doing 3. But, I put on the shuffle and made myself do 6. Two easy loops around the park at a 10:40 pace and I called it a day.

I headed back home and then the kiddo and I were off to playgroup. Afterwards, I had to head to the library to work on my Marketing paper (insert more Mommy guilt here). But, there was family time in the late afternoon and that was great. And, the day ended with house hunting in the 'burbs and dinner at Chuy's (complete with a yummy 'rita).

Little did I know...

The weekend went well. Naturally, things had to take a turn in the opposite direction...murphy's law.

Around 10 pm, the kiddo wanted to come to bed with me. No biggie, this is a nightly routine for us, but usually she doesn't do this until 1 am or so. A little before midnight, I hear "Mommy!" and wake up to projectile vomiting in my bed. Oh, the joys of motherhood! My poor baby had a nasty stomach flu. We were up until about 3 am, when she finally seemed to be doing better and could go back to sleep. Ugh, this happened once last year too and it was not fun. (Now that I think about it, I also caught the bug and then the hubby.) At least this year, she can tell us a little more about how she's feeling, what hurts, etc. Needless to say, I did not get out of bed when my alarm clock went off at 4 am. Nope, I slept right through what was supposed to be my workout and mid-term study time. You know what they say...life happens!

Fortunately, by last night she was doing much better. And today, she's almost back to her cute, happy little self. We spent the afternoon having "tea" and "coffee" in her little playhouse in the backyard. After she went to bed, I managed to do 45 minutes of Si6. Hopefully, I will get in a good run tomorrow before I have to hit the books. My Marketing mid-term is Saturday...trust me, I would much rather be joining my fellow Striders at the Bayou City Classic!

The Kiddo's 1st 1K

Here's my adorable kiddo in her 1st 1K:

I think we will be buying multiple copies for us, the grandparents, godparents, etc. :-)
