Well, it's official....I have my MBA!
It's been the roughest week of school projects I've had in a long time. And it was even worse because I (and the rest of my group) had motivational issues due to good ol' senioritis (or the grad school version of it). But, I am pretty confident that we did pretty well with both our final paper and our presentation. And, I am pretty sure I will end my grad school career with 2 A's.
I am so freakin' glad it's over. I was supposed to run 4 miles tomorrow, but honestly, after this week I just want to get some rest. I need a decent night's sleep!
I'll catch everyone up on all the other stuff in the next day or two.

Woohoo!
Our group made a 100 on our Marketing presentation...woohoo! Pretty good considering we actually met once in person the entire semester. One of the peer evaluations actually directed a comment at me - "Christy: great presentation skills!" I am definitely stoked...too bad I still have a final to study for, but no worries it shouldn't be too bad.

Still here...
Yep, I'm alive and kicking.
Still stressing about school. I have a marketing final, plus managemenet group paper and presentation. The management final went pretty well...it was tougher than I expected, but I made a high B which should be good enough for me to keep my A in that class.
But, in exactly 6 days I will be done with school!
Forever.
Well, okay maybe not forever. There's always the thought in the back of my head about getting a PhD and teaching. Or, going ahead and earning my Master's in HR too. But either of those options are a long way away.
Very.far.future.

Where to start?
Here are this week's workouts so far....
SUNDAY
The parents had the kiddo over for a sleepover, so I slept in and then did my run...man did it feel awesome to sleep until 8:30 am! Anything later than 6:15 is late these days. It's bad when your 2-month old sleeps better than your 3 year old.
Workout #1 - "long" run - 2 miles, outdoors (9 am), 5/1's - don't know what's going on with my knees, but they were both sore afterwards. That, and my right calf was cramping up.
The hubby and I are working out together for the 1st time ever. We've decided to try something new - P90X. Day 1 was chest and back, plus something appropriately titled "Ab Ripper". Now, I've done upper body workouts and ab workouts, but this is not just your average, run of the mill push ups and crunches.
This is push ups and crunches on CRACK.
True story.
Honestly, the upper body workout didn't seem horrible when I was doing it, but by the evening it hurt to pick up my 13 lbs munchkin.
Workout #2 - 56 minutes of chest and back, plus 16 minutes of 349 grueling ab exercises
MONDAY
I actually went into work for a 1/2 day for meetings (which I will be doing 2x per week until August). Since I also had to go to school for a group project meeting, I woke up at 5:00 am to feed the baby and do what else? Workout! Yes, I was a grumpy biotch, but I did it anyway. I was sore as hell from day 1 of P90X.
Workout - 1 hour of plyometrics
Plyometrics is basically an intense bunch of jumping exercises designed to improve endurance. It was pretty brutal. There was one exercise where you simply hop on one foot for a minute and then switch legs...I couldn't do it because it hurt the hell out of my knees.
TUESDAY
Back to work today for a training class. But, I had a 5 am P90X workout on the schedule - 1 hour of shoulders and arms, plus the good ol' ab ripper. Fun, fun!
I actually ran out of time and couldn't do the ab ripper until the evening after the kiddos were in bed. The goal was to also get in my 25 minute run around the neighborhood, but by the time I finished the ab ripper, I was pooped. I will have to get in my 3 runs on consecutive days - Wed, Thurs & Fri. School is Sat, so my "long" run will be on Sunday again. Lucky for me, the gate on the pool is fixed, so I am going to get in an early morning swim sometime soon!

Speaking of the pool, I did get to take the kiddo to her swim class this afternoon...she did awesome! Pretty soon she's going to be giving me pointers. LOL!

Update
Sorry for the sporadic posting. Check out my graduation pics here.
LOL, Barbara I STILL haven't seen SATC!! Trying to get my group of girlfriends together is almost impossible...hopefully this weekend. Either that or I'm going to go by myself during the week.
Jamoosh, I had the long awaited margarita last night and it was de-lish!!!!
I finally tested the waters...I had a real workout today. My 1st post partum one and the first one since about 6-7 weeks ago, since I didn't really count my walks to the pool or playground with the kiddo as a workout.
I headed out on the bike today around 2:30 pm. Well I tried to head out at 1:30, but the bike gods were not cooperating. 1st, I had a flat....I haven't been on the bike since October of last year and I had a friggin' flat! To top it off, the spare I was sold was not the right one for the bike. Thankfully, the hubby had a spare tube! Then, something was up with my gears and I kept hearing a clicking noise. Again, the hubby helped me out. I was finally on my way, but I realized now why I REALLY needed to take the bike maintenance workshop at Bike Barn that I had signed up for 2x, but had to cancel both times thanks to school.
The ride was only 30 minutes...just enough time to see if I was truly ready to get back into the swing of things. For some reason, I can tolerate the heat better on the bike than I can running...that hasn't changed since last year! Since I still have the slicks on my bike from the Tour de Pink, I stayed on the road (rather than the trails, although the trails would have been more fun). I've been wanting to check out some parts of the neighborhood that I'd never seen before and that's exactly what I did. I'll admit, between the headwind and the heat, 30 minutes was all I could take. My heart rate was up and my legs felt like jello afterwards, but I enjoyed the hell out of it!
Sooooo, I am officially back. I need to come up with a game plan for working on my mileage both with running and on the bike. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Fortunately, I have already met someone in the neighborhood who has offered to show me the trails (for biking and running) and who swims laps at the pool before anyone else gets there. I *think* I meeting up with her at the pool early Sunday morning to see what I've retained from the lessons I took last summer. I imagine it will NOT be pretty. :-)

Whew!
I think the symptoms mentioned in the last post were just a fluke. After a good night's sleep, I have developed a stuffy nose, but other than that I feel fine. Thank God!
The good news is, I am almost finished with that lovely 20-page paper. Mine is actually more like 17 pages, but I'm not too worried. Any more pages and I would be including too much BS. And, the topic for my Ethics paper is going well too. Thanks to Viv for the link to a very helpful PBS special! I want have some library time on Saturday morning, so I can knock out both papers. That way, I can avoid looking at them for a couple of days and then go back and read again with fresh eyes. Then, I can just concentrate on my MIS final and those daunting 18 essay questions. Ugh! Fortunately, several of us in the class have gotten together and divided up the essay questions, so that none of us has to do all 18 questions on our own. Divide and conquer seems to be a reoccurring theme in grad school. :-)
In baby news, the bedding set for the crib has finally arrived! Now I can start with the real decorating. I was beginning to worry that the baby would arrive before the room decor. I'll post a pic as soon as it's done...well that and after I dig through more boxes to find the cable to hook up my camera to the computer. :-) Oh and the hubby's Hapkido instructor wants him to take his 2nd Don (i.e. 2nd degree blackbelt) test on May 3rd....ummm, that's 2 days before my due date, so it all depends on when the baby decides to make his grand entrance. If we're still waiting for the big arrival, I intend to go watch the tests. We'll see!

It hit me
Between work, school, family and getting ready for the munchkin, I have way too much to accomplish and not enough time to accomplish it. This simple fact may result in my 3rd B in a grad school class...yeah, call me a slacker. I hope that's not the case, but while everyone else has until May 10th to complete their semester, I am trying to wrap everything up by April 29th. I hate it when I feel like I have so much going on that none of it is being done as well as I would like. The whole mediocrity thing bugs me...but a girl can only do so much, ya know?

I just received the official review questions for the MIS final and our topics for our final paper in Ethics. The MIS questions are going to be a total PITA, but the Ethics paper doesn't sound too bad. I think I can easily use what I learned this semester to do a moral analysis on Wal-mart and determine whether Wal-mart is a morally good company, how I can make it morally better, etc. It's either that or examine my own employer and I'm not going there. Sounds like a stimulating topic, don't you think?
Speaking of Ethics...last night we discussed moral marketing. This led to us watching about a 1/2 hour of Super Size Me. After seeing that, I don't know if I ever want to eat fast food again. True story.

Showers, Hockey and KFC
I am beat. I wished I had stopped at Starbucks this morning, because I am soooo sleepy.
This past weekend will hopefully be the last crazy, back-to-back activity filled weekend before the baby is here. I do have tons of school stuff to take care of, but I want to relax as much as possible over the next couple of weeks.
Saturday was nutty! I had class in the am, then had to head home to change and get ready for another baby shower for the munchkin. It was awesome! This one was mostly family with a few friends mixed in. The munchkin received lots of cute clothes, diapers and even a few items that didn't even exist when the kiddo was born! It's amazing how much things have changed in 3 years. The kiddo even received a few gifts from her grandparents...lemme tell you, we found out on Saturday that the kiddo is a natural born entertainer. I wasn't going to bring her to the shower, but I am so glad I did! She helped me open the presents and put on a little show for the guests between each gift. I'm talking about dancing around the room with tissue paper, doing "ballet" turns and just being silly. Talk about comic relief..she had the room rolling.
Afterwards, several family members came by to check out the new house. Then, the hubby and I were just sitting around with the kiddo on the back patio when my mother-in-law asked, "Are ya'll still going to the wedding?" We looked at our watches and it was 6:25....my friend's wedding was starting at 7 pm! Thank God, I was pretty much ready, the hubby can get ready pretty quick and the location was not very far...we made it to the wedding with about 3 minutes to spare. We did get home in time to relax a bit. We watched American Gangster, which I had already seen. The hubby liked it, but apparently not as much as I did.
Sunday was pretty much just as crazy. Grocery store in the am, followed by a birthday party for one of the kiddo's school friends at Monkey Bizness, followed by the Aeros game with the GSA (Graduate Student Association, not the Girl Scouts of America...hehehe) from school. In between, there was a little time for sorting through baby clothes, decorating the nursery a little, but that's about it. Last night at 10:30 pm, I finally got to sit down on the couch and do nothing. Then, I realized that I should probably just go to bed. :-)
Today is work and then school. We're supposed to be getting our final paper topics in my Ethics class, so my goal is to get to work on it asap. I have two other assignments due in that class before the final, so I hope to get all 3 done by the end of this weekend. In MIS, the prof gave us 18 sample essay questions to help us prepare for our final. The final will have 7 of those questions and one "wildcard" essay question....we're supposed to write 4-5 pages on each essay topic! Ummmm, 32 pages to write in 4 hours...I can't wait. Not. Ummm, yeah, so much for the relaxing thing I was talking about at the beginning of this post.
By the way, did I ever mention that my prof looks like Col. Sanders of KFC? True story.

The Countdown Begins!
I am due 1 month from today!
Of course, if this little guy would like to make an appearance a teeny, tiny bit early I would have no problem with that. :-)
I have about 10 more pages to write for my MIS paper, a term paper for Ethics (only 5 pages) and my MIS final. Plus, we need to finish getting everything ready in the nursery...looks like the month ahead will be a busy one!

Back to Reality
Ugh, it's back - the real world.
Having 4 consecutive days off was awesome! Although, I did get two work e-mails on the Blackberry on Easter Sunday....WTH? Some folks seriously have no life.
Yesterday was much more relaxing than the previous 3 days. The kiddo and I hung out in our PJs as late as possible yesterday morning - which wasn't late enough, but I had an ultrasound at 10:45 am on the other side of town. The baby looks great, but is still measuring 2 weeks ahead. I dunno if I was wrong with my dates -or- if I am just going to have one huge baby....that last thought scares the heck outta me! Later, the kiddo and I headed to the only playground in the neighborhood that we hadn't already checked out and played in the backyard after that.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. I had class last night and actually got to campus a couple of hours early to work on a project. I have been a serious slacker this entire semester, but by the time the kiddo goes to bed (around 9:30), I am beat and haven't had the motivation to stay up late working on my projects. But, with the semester coming to an end and with this baby on the way, I am going to have to make myself work on this stuff!

Still Movin'
Just not on the treadmill.
Who would have thought that our little house could hold so much crap?!?!?! It seems like I keep packing box after box after box and I still have a ton more to pack. Not to mention all the crap that's boxed in our attic and shed. We could just move it all to the new house, but I imagine that I can throw away a lot of it and would prefer to only move the stuff I really want to move. Luckily, we're not in a rush to get out of our house. But, I would like for it to be presentable for selling purposes very soon.
Sorry there's nothing more exciting to report. Oh wait, I do have something exciting - I am going to buy my cap and gown tomorrow! I don't officially finish my MBA until August, but we are walking in the graduation ceremony in May (there's no August graduation ceremony). It's a bit anti-climatic, but it's at least another sign that I am almost done. Wooohooo!
Come August, furnished house or not, I am having a Margarita-Fest at the new casa! Anyone want to join me???

@$#&*?@!!!
Dammit! So much for getting through my final two semesters without another Finance or Econ class. The summer schedule just came out and there are no Ethics or Marketing electives being offered in the summer. Gaaaah!
As if the condensed version of a semester isn't bad enough! This is going to be fun...not!

Workout...
Tuesday Workout
Treadmill, 30 minutes, super sloooooowwwwww
Not much to report here. I still get that damn stitch in my side when I walk and now a lovely crotch pain afterwards. (LOL, this reminds me of Marcy's "broken crotch" a few months back.) I had my regular monthly OB appointment this morning and the Doc said the pain was common with a 2nd pregnancy. Apparently, the pelvic muscles and round ligament aren't as strong as before the 1st pregnancy and well, they just don't support as well. Lovely!
Changing the subject (to your relief I'm sure), we are still on the fence about our houses. We love both! And, our realtor says the other realtor is expecting an offer from someone today on the older house, so I guess we better get our arses in gear and make a decision.
School is okay...no group projects or mind numbing numerical problems this time around. I was thankful for that at first; However, the amount of reading both classes require is making me wish I just had some numbers to crunch instead. Who would have guessed that would ever happen with me?!?!?

Yikes!
Looks like I have some Christmas Shopping to do! As if I didn't already know that...but now it's going to have to be expedited a bit. The hubby decided that he wants to visit his parent's house this weekend, rather than making them come to see us.
As of today, the only Christmas presents I have purchased have been for the kiddo. That means I need to get ALL my shopping done during my lunch break or after work between now and Friday, since we're leaving Friday and not coming back until Monday. Agh! And I am not one to be out shopping on Christmas Eve!
So much for relaxing after finals! Hopefully, once Christmas is over, I can get in some R&R and some running too.
Speaking of finals...we completely scratched our original video idea. We were getting short on time and I decided to throw together something on onetruemedia.com. Not very original, but the Prof loved it and we got the highest grade in the class! (Apparently, the other groups went the same route because they could not edit their videos!)
I wish I could say the same for our Finance class. That final was beyond brutal. The prof said it should take approximately 2 1/2 hours. I left 3 hours and 15 minutes later and about 1/3 of the class was still there. Those I ran into on the way out had a glazed over expression that said "that kicked my ass!". I'm sure I wore that expression as well. But, it's over and that alone makes me one happy camper!

Best-laid plans
You can plan all you want, but when you have a 3-year old sometimes even the best made plans get thrown out the window.
I stayed late at work tonight. The parents were kind enough to pick up the kiddo, so the hubby could go to Hapkido. They were also kind enough to bring the kiddo home, so I didn't have to drive across town to pick her up. Little did I know that she would get home a hour later than planned. Had I known, I would have hopped on the treadmill as soon as I made it into the house. Oh well, it did give me time to get clothes ready for tomorrow, make the kiddo's lunch, etc. I figured I could get on the treadmill after she went to sleep.
Not quite.
It's now 9:45. The kiddo went to sleep about 5 minutes ago. Yep, now I have just enough time to work on my Finance assignment before I get really sleepy. The treadmill run went out the window! Ugh! I don't know what happened to the kiddo who fell asleep by 8:30. She seems to disappear every once in a while, only to be replaced by the kiddo who refuses to close her eyes, has to go potty 15 times, needs a drink of water, or has some other excuse for NOT going to sleep. Ugh, I hope the other kiddo comes back again soon. The sleepier one. This Mommy needs to work out! I am stressed and the only thing that helps is getting lost in a run (or in recent weeks a jog).
So, I have my bag packed for tomorrow. If all goes well, I will try to leave work a little early and head to the park for the first time in what seems like ages. Unfortunately, I was not prepared for something I discovered today. Something I knew was happening, but received an official confirmed today. My butt, hips, waist and stomach are getting huge! I know that's what's SUPPOSED to happen when you're preggo, but nothing quite prepares you for when that realization really hits home. I mean, yes, my clothes are tight. And no, I can't button my pants. :-) But, I thought that my cute running skirt that looked fine a couple of weeks ago might just be okay. I mean, the fabric does stretch.
It just doesn't quite stretch enough.
It fits, but it's tight!
It looks like I might be wearing the hubby's workout shorts soon. :-)
I'm off to hit the books.

Short Update
Not too much to report today...I started hitting the books again for my Finance class. I have to admit that after all the studying and preparation for the mid-term only to get a mediocre grade, I was burnt out. I didn't open my book at all over the past two weeks. (I'll admit, not the best way to make a better grade on the final!) I did have to work with my group on another presentation for my Int'l Management class, but that's about all I did. Next, we get to make a video in that class. Sounds like a fun assignment, but no one in my group has any clue how to edit a video. If anyone out there has any tips or knows someone who can help, please let me know!!! :-)
I managed another 30 minutes on the dreadmill this morning doing embarrassingly slow intervals. But, it felt like a 1/2 way decent workout.
Workout Stats
Treadmill, 30 minutes, 2/2 intervals, ~12:40 pace

post and run.
I am experiencing something this morning that I haven't experienced in a really long time - a really crappy, shitty mood. Seriously. In the past few years, I have gotten so much better about not sweating the small stuff, but today everything is getting to me. The traffic was horrible, the shirt my work gave me to wear to an event today is so huge, I can barely get it tucked in. My hair looks like crap, my computer is running slow, the copier got jammed, the shredder isn't working, and our new hire has not shown up yet (an hour late!). Small, stupid things to get all worked up about, but for some reason I am so incredibly irritable today!
Life has been insanely crazy the past few days. I'm sure that has a lot to do with my mood.
I had a visit to the back specialist Monday and she prescribed another month of PT, with more stretching added to the strengthening exercises. I forgot to mention in my Race for the Cure report that I ran into the PT hottie right after crossing the finish line. He gave me that "are you supposed to be running?" look and asked how my back felt.
In school, I have a project due in my international management class on Saturday and I am only 1/2 done. Plus our finance mid-term is in two weeks!
At work, I had to travel to our Austin office on Tuesday, went to a job fair at UH yesterday (arriving at work at 6:15 am to get some "urgent" stuff done before hand) and today I am in the office until noon and then off to Dallas until about 9 pm. And somehow, I have to finish my school project, so that it's worthy of an A. Ugh! I did manage to get in 30 minutes of brisk walking on the treadmill done on Tuesday and 45 minutes of jogging/walking with the kiddo in the jog stroller yesterday. This is the 5th week in a row that I've only been in the office 2-3 days. Yet, there is still so many big projects that have to get done.
Well, I am off to get more of those "urgent" work tasks done before I head to the airport. I'm beginning to wonder if I am ever going to get back to regular posting again.

Bor-ing!
Jeeze, I feel like my workout reports just keep getting more and more boring. Afterall, what's so exciting about a 30 minute treadmill run? Nothing! The back is still bothering me, but it wasn't too bad last night. I have my 1st PT appointment on Monday.
Honestly, I really don't know how I am going to fit in the PT! I'm going to Texas A&M (WHOOP!) next week from Wednesday through Friday for college recruiting. I'm excited about possibly getting in an early morning jog through campus...it's been forever since I've been back. And, I just found out yesterday that I am going to NYC for work the following week for 2 days (possibly longer if I can find a reasonably priced hotel there and extend the trip..is that an even realistic?). Then, the week after that, I'm off to Tech for a couple of days for more college recruiting. Thank God the month of October looks a little less hectic! I have a 2 day trip to LSU and that's it! But being away from the hubby and kiddo is tough...not to mention that the hubby has to use his PTO, since he works nights.
Somehow, I have to make sure I stay on top of the school stuff during all this. Looks like the housework will be the 1st to be neglected, followed by running....and neglecting the workouts makes me one grumpy girl. :-) By the way Barbara, I am actually enjoying Finance class so far! (I can't believe I typed that!)

Long Weekend
I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!
Saturday, as you know, I had classes. My Marketing Prof decided to have class after all, so I had class all day. But, now I don't have any classes this weekend! Woohoo!
Sunday, I met my friend at the park for a morning bike ride. She was planning to do 40, but with my back issues, I decided to just do 20. The weather was awesome! It was humid, but the temp was a cool 74 degrees. As we started our ride, it actually felt cold! Well, anything compared to the 100 degree "feels like" temps we're used to riding in would feel cold. :-) So, the ride was fun. It actually turned out to be about 21 miles. It wasn't the fastest ride I've done, but it was a good effort. After playgroup, the SIL offered to watch the kiddo and take her to the pool. It gave the hubby and I a chance to have a nice, relaxing, toddler-free lunch and look at houses again. I am having the same issues as last time...I like several parts of several different floor plans, but not one builder offers everything I want! Grrrrr....
Yesterday, the kiddo slept in until 7 am! We grabbed some breakfast and headed to the park. I ran/walked 30 minutes. Actually it was more walk than run. My back was really bothering me yesterday and walking seemed to hurt less. (Usually, it's the opposite.) Next, we headed to the playground. The kiddo was having a great time and had only been there about 15 minutes when we met the Spawn of Satan. Really.
The kiddo climbed up to the top of the "fort" to slide down the corkscrew slide. I'm not sure why, but she decided to lay on her back and slide. Well, I was standing a little way behind her and a little boy (SofS) ran past me to the same slide. I was just about to tell the kiddo to hurry because the boy wanted to slide too, when he raised his foot high into the air and brought it down on her head! I saw what was about to happen, but I couldn't move fast enough. The kiddo screamed and went down the slide. I ran down the little steps to get her. I felt so bad! And, I wanted to drop kick that little SofS right off the top of the slide! Seriously.
The boy's Mom didn't see everything. She just saw that her son was there and heard the kiddo scream. She asked me what happened and I showed her exactly what he did. When she went to get him, he would not come to her. She had to chase him around the playground for a few minutes! My anger at the boy subsided when I saw how mortified she was that her son had done such a thing. The mom was very apologetic. She made the boy come apologize. The poor Kiddo had a big goose egg on the back of her head, where it hit the slide. Needless to say, she was ready to go home after that. (Usually, I have to drag her or bribe her to leave the playground!) Later, the hubby played with the kiddo while I went to a movie. I finally got to see Hairspray! Last night, my parents took us out to Benihana. Yum!
So that's the weekend recap. This afternoon, I'm heading to the doctor...hopefully, she'll be able to help me out with the back issues!
Workout Stats
Riding - 21 miles, 1 hr 37 minutes

Sleepy!
I have had morning issues all week. This morning was no different. I had my alarm clock set for 5:00 am and I crawled out of bed at 6:12 am! So much for a little Si6 and Finance. I was hoping for a nice upper body workout and some reading.
I need to get my butt in gear. I'm afraid I am not starting out the semester on the right foot...I still have 2 chapters to read!
Good luck to everyone running the Fired Up 5K! I'll keep my fingers crossed for some cooler, less humid morning temps and lots of PRs!
