So last night, I managed to carve out 20 minutes to run between putting the kiddo to bed and cramming for my OB final. I stretched for a bit and hopped on the treadmill, hoping to catch the last 20 minutes of ER at the same time. Right away, I noticed that nagging pain again - the one right above my butt just a bit to the right. I felt the pull everytime I took a stride with my right foot. So, I stopped and stretched a few minutes more, which seemed to help a little. I noticed the same pain during my last Houston Fit run, but it eased after the first couple of miles. Anyway, I ended up walking quite a bit since it was less painful to walk. I am hoping for a 10 mile run on Sunday at the park...I guess I'll just see how it goes. I was just happy to fit in some kind of exercise! Tonight - the abbreviated core workout! The kiddo likes to do it with me...except she uses her little wooden blocks instead of hand weights. :-)
Added at 10:30 am - After checking the web, seems my pain could possibly either Sciatica or Piriformis syndrome. I found some stretches to try, so I'll start there.

I'd get that checked out. I 'm not saying...I'm just saying.
Too funny. I got up this morning to purposefully run just a short 20 minutes. You know, at the time of course it doesn't seem like much, almost not worth the effort.
But then I realize that's 20 minutes more than many people do any day of the week, and those quick runs add up at the end of the week/month/year.
Hello, Just randomly looking in blogger and ran across yours. Interesting Chicago Marathon story. Congrats from runner to another. Perhaps I will be able to peruse others at another time
Yep Barbara, 20 minutes is not my optimal workout, but I figure sometimes anything is better than doing nothing at all!
Christy, that is what was nagging me for months. If the stretches don't work for you, try a chiropractor that you trust.
Mine found that my left hip was a centimeter higher than my right and that my lower back muscles are stronger than my core muscles.
Plus, in addition, she found - rather .. confirmed - that my hamstrings were extremely tight.
I punched my Sunmart/Ultra ticket as well.
Jon, Thanks!!! When I 1st started running I learned the same thing about my hips. A few sessions of PT and I was good to go!
Oh gosh, I hope the pain gets better soon! Glad you got a bit of exercise in!
