HOT, HOT, HOT

Today's heat was an azz kicker and it sure kicked mine. I headed straight to the park after work for a loop. For the 1st 1/4 mile, I was in the shade and thought to myself, "oh, this isn't all that bad." Mother nature must have been smirking, clasping her hands and saying, "I'll get you my pretty" (in her best Wicked Witch from The Wizard of OZ voice). Why do I think that? Because when I rounded the corner, I was in direct sunshine and it was freaking HOT! By the end of the 1st mile, I was sweaty. By the end of the 2nd mile, I was cursing to myself and telling myself that this was NOT fun. For the next .9, I walked more than I'd like to admit. I finally made it back to my starting point and could not wait to hop into the pool. Ahhh yes, putting on a swimsuit while all sticky and sweaty is fun! (note the sarcasm)

The swimming is going a little better. I definitely feel more confident in the water. Now, if I could just remember to do all the things I'm supposed to do. All at the same time. :-) By the way, thanks for the tips and words of encouragement! They are much appreciated! Next week, I'm going to be travelling for work, so no swim class. I'm planning to head to the pool at least once a week for some "laps" for the rest of the summer. Depending on how the rest of the summer semester goes, I may try to sign up for the last session of swim classes at the end of the summer. With two big group presentations due on the last day of class, I'm not sure if that's going to happen. By the way, I've been getting the most awful charlie horses in my feet and calves when I swim...what's up with that?

Running Stats
Conditions - 93 (had to be 100 with heat index!)
Total run time - 32:05
Total distance - 2.9 miles
Pace - 11:04 (I don't know how with all that walking!)

I don't even know how you are able to run outside. LOL That's some CRAZY heat down there.

Great job getting a swim in!!

Not sure what's up with the charlie horses. I do get toe cramps from time to time while swimming, which I attribute to the fact that I'm constantly pointing my feet and toes...

Doesn't the heat coming up from the pavement just eat you alive. I can remember that when I lived in Houston and didn't even run back then. Still a good time though.

Great job on the run in the heat! I can feel the heat through my shoes sometimes...

It really does get that dry here (8% humidity today). Crazy, huh? When you walk outside it's like opening the oven door. :.p

I get the same cramps in my legs and feet when swimming. as you become a stronger swimmer it will eventually go away- or so Manny says.
