Ramble Ramble

Tonight - 4 miler on the dreadmill. As I ran, I began to ponder all my running thoughts....

  • What the heck is a recovery run??? To me, "recovery" means sitting on the couch watching chick flicks with a big scoop of Dryer's Slow Churned 1/2 the fat Rocky Road ice cream.
  • How can I get faster when I'm supposed to do my training runs slower than my actual race pace? Wouldn't I just run slower then too?
  • What about the websites like this one where you enter your most recent run time, then it gives you what pace you should run your long run, tempo run, etc.? If I enter my latest race pace, but it's slower than what I want my race pace to be...can the predicted times still help me run faster???
  • Okay, I joined the Striders! Woohoo! Do I need to join Harra too? You know, just to cover all my bases.
  • Speaking of the Striders...what days do those guys run? Wednesday? Thursday? Somebody skool me please. :-)
  • Hmmm...the hubby and I are on a budget, school takes up a lot of Saturdays...I'd better choose my races carefully, so I get the best race experience for the money. Any suggestions are appreciated.
  • Speaking of school, will my training still be effective if I can only squeeze in 2 runs during the week and a long run on the weekends? Most running schedules suggest at least 3 runs during the week, if not 4.
  • Oh yeah, and I need to make sure the hubby is at home on race mornings or I have to arrange for a back-up baby-sitter. Volunteers??? Just kidding!
  • Hmmm...I wonder how old the kiddo needs to be for her 1st "kids" run? The kiddo can already run pretty far...and fast!
  • Everytime I come home from a run, or even have my running clothes on, she says, "Mommy run?" and does the sign for run. Then she yells, "Mommy run fast!" Sweet kiddo! She's probably the only person who will ever say I run fast!

hahahahahaaahhaa that's funny!

you get faster by doing speed work... one or two days a week

yes, join HARRA

you should be added to the Striders email list and our fearless leader, Steeeve, is very good about sending out emails telling everyone the plan for the whole week (meeting places and planned distances) and then even sending out reminders for each run!

run the races with the best t-shirt = ) or the ones with the most Striders in attendance!

lots of opinions here but I do believe you can run 3 days a week and be effective as long as EVERY run is a quality workout...and it all depends on what distance you're training for...

baby-jogger...is that an option? if not, how 'bout baby tylenol and just knock the kid out for a couple of hours...from the lips of a child-FREE person! hahahahahaha

can she run the distance??? 1k or 1 mile? how bout crawl?

yay for the kiddo! way to encourage mommy = ))

Christy,

Our weekly all-comers run is every Wednesday, 7pm, Memorial Park opposite the Fitness/Aquatic Center. Usually 3-6 miles, all paces accommodated.

We have a separate yahoo group for SMART that Pony alluded to. We have group training runs year round in West Memorial and August to January on Tuesday/Thursday inside the loop. I'll add you to the group.

Not that I'm biased.... :)

I have often wondered the same thing -- how are you supposed to run a race faster than you train? But Pony's right, speedwork helps. And it helps a surprising amount!

Yeah, Margo and I go way back. OK, a year and a half. But we worked on a HARRA project together in the heady days of 2005.

Yes, you need to join HARRA. Membership pays for itself with race discounts, shoe and apparel discounts, and a subscription to Inside Texas Running.

And, Margo, time to renew :-)

Dang it Christy!!! I just got my head completely cleared of ANYTHING and you you've gone off and made me think. Grrrr!!! Now...**thinkin**...

If I eat 2 quarter pounders with cheese (add mayo) how many miles will I have to run to burn that many calories?

What if I didn't add the mayo but had ice cream after?

What exactly is the difference in calories between a scoop of ice cream and a couple of tbsp of mayo?

Can I burn the calories off over a period of time or does it have to be in the same 24 hour period?

Ugggh!!! Thanks a lot, Christy!
